Towards a cartosemiotic competence and knowledge

The modern society needs on diverse cartographic and map-like products in analogic and digital form. For modern cartography, the key role plays its competence into spatial visualization. But in the background of this development the cartosemiotics (subdisciplin of cartography) has an important position.
The
main issue of cartosemiotics is an acquisition of new
spatial knowledge or revitalization of forgotten spatial information of cartographic and map-like products (or models). Some
questions concerning cartosemiotic competence and knowledge
will be discussed in this paper.
